Big Shopper by Af Klint No. 2
This big shopper is inspired by Painting No. 2, part of a series of ten wall-sized paintings Swedish painter Hilma af Klint made for a temple (which was never built). Af Klint was interested in spiritualism and the subconscious. She was one of the first artists to experiment with automatic drawing, a technique in which the artist allows his hand to move freely across the paper without conscious control. For Af Klint, this resulted in hypnotic works full of geometric shapes, symbols and intricate patterns, all rendered in vibrant colours. Her complete oeuvre of more than 1,300 paintings and 124 notebooks is unlike anything we know of her contemporaries.
